Performance opportunities go beyond the Spring Recital at Southeast School of Dance. We offer community team performances at local festivals and  Solo, Duet, and Trio opportunities.

Community Team Performances or Solo, Duet & Trio Opportunities

SESD dancers have two different ways to perform throughout the year, beyond their regular classes: Community Team Performances and Solo, Duet & Trio Opportunities. Community team performances happen at events like festivals, expos, and holiday celebrations, and are open to any interested dancer. Select events also feature performances from our solo, duet, and trio dancers. Both give dancers extra stage time and real world performance experience, without the commitment level of our competition program.

Which Opportunity is Right for Your Dancer?

Solo, Duet & Trio Opportunities

  • Solos, duets, and trios are guaranteed to perform at the Spring Recital.
  • These dancers may also be selected to perform their piece at select community events throughout the season, alongside the team piece described above, as a bonus opportunity beyond the Recital.
  • Genre options include Contemporary, Jazz, Jazz Funk, Hip Hop, Lyrical, and Musical Theatre.
  • Interest can be expressed by a dancer's parent, or a dancer may be invited by SESD staff.
  • Interest can be expressed by a dancer's parent, or a dancer may be invited by SESD staff.
  • The minimum age to participate is 9.
  • Summer classes are encouraged, but not required.
  • Dancers must attend regular season technique classes, and accounts must be in good standing.
  • A signed choreography agreement is required.
  • Choreography, private lesson and rehearsal, costume and accessories, and music editing fees are all included.

Community Team Performances

  • Open to any interested dancer.
  • For most events, one team piece is choreographed for dancers who want to participate. Because participation depends on each family's availability, the specific dancers performing may vary from event to event.
  • Some events also feature performances from our solo, duet, and trio dancers, alongside the team piece. See Solo, Duet & Trio Opportunities below for more on that program.
  • Cost varies by event and covers choreography, extra rehearsal time, and SESD attire. For example, participating in the Carolina Core performance costs $50, which includes an SESD branded t-shirt.

  • Do I have to commit to every community performance oppotunity?

    No. Participation in team pieces depends on each family's availability, so which dancers perform may vary from event to event. Southeast School of Dance understands that family schedules are busy and we never want availability to be a barrier to participation.

  • Does every community event include a solo, duet, or trio performance?

    Most do but a few are team only. Each event card above notes whether solo, duet, and trio dancers also perform alongside the team piece. Check the current season's event listings above for full details on each performance opportunity at Southeast School of Dance.

  • Can my child join the team piece at community events if they are already in the solo, duet, or trio program?

    Yes. Being part of the solo, duet, or trio program doesn't limit a dancer to performing only their own piece. They're welcome to also join the team piece at community events, alongside dancers who aren't in the solo, duet, or trio program.
